santa what?, little ironies, end of the world, the postman always rings the bell and runs away So on my way to work there's a Walgreens that has up on their billboard: "SANTA CON. $12.99" Or, well, I don't actually remember the price. And I don't know what the hell Santa Con is, either. But I seriously did a double take when I saw it. I was like, "Santa what? Santa...con? Like...lolicon? Lolicon. Shotacon. Santacon. The Holy Trinity of perversity. Heh." (It was early, I was tired.) Of course, now I'm dying to go in and see what the heck it is they're selling....
Also? Keep forgetting to mention, but on the way to my dentist, there's a Hemp and Marijuana Foundation. It's right next to a company that does lawn seeding. (It's just these little ironies that make life worth living.)
And every time I hear about the end of the Mayan Calendar world, I find myself thinking, "OMG...in four years, I'm going to have the best birthday party ever." You're all invited. I'm sure there'll be cake. *hearts*
Oh! And it was finally not raining and slow enough at work that I was able to take a long lunch and go down to the post office, so there's a few packages on the way (finally!). Like I keep saying, it only takes me a few months to get there.... *cringe* But Laura and I are going to be baking up a storm on the 14th (baking has always been a social thing for me, I swear), so there are possibly baked goods in somebody's future, assuming I can get them shipped before they go stale! *laughs* Yeah, me and the postman, we're like this.... *holds hands wide apart*
Erm. Yeah, I really need to write tonight. Or I could level my team up! Or...I could write. Or I could not sleep! *hearts* Maybe I'll go with that one.... |

p3, music blather Wah...so yesterday I went to work on exactly zero sleep, came home, fell down and died. Just, uh, my way of saying "Wow, I got nothing done!" And today it's also entirely likely that I'll get nothing done, because I really sort of want to play some P3 tonight. *hearts* Hey, the sooner I get it played, the sooner I can write about it, right? But! Have Captain Surly on the team now, and omg, he is love! Even if he is only good for beating the crap out of things with physical attacks and standing around looking like a mugging waiting to happen. Still love. Yes. Oh, and the full moon fight in the hotel? DIED. I fell sideways off the bed and DIED. Loudly. Just sayin'. Anyway, been trying to actually listen to everything on my iPod instead of obsessively playing songs/albums I like for days on end...and don't you hate it when you pick up a song and have NO IDEA where it came from? And can't find it in all the crap you've got on your computer anyway to stick it in the proper mix folder? But you know it has to be somewhere, because iPods don't just load themselves! ...you hope. Heh. (The fact that I'm "a good day" away from 4000 albums at this point is probably not helping.) Right, music. Short but sweet, I promise! For instance, I would kill to hear a mashup with these two songs. Just. They're nothing alike, and yet they are. It's hard to explain. But I bet if I listen to them back to back for the next few hours, when I go to sleep tonight, my brain will splice them together for me if I ask it nicely. *hearts* Anoice - "Aspirin Music"Pink Martini - "Bolero"And I finally got around to actually listening to the Amalgamated Sons of Rest album, which is a collaboration between Will Oldham (squee), Jason Molina (double squee), and some other guy who I haven't gotten around to tracking down yet. *grins* Yes, okay, I admit it, seeing the traditional songs on it sort of put me off, because I've heard so many bloody awful interpretations of traditional songs, y'know? But I should've known Oldham and Molina wouldn't steer me wrong. But the reason I'm posting this particular one is because--despite the different titles--this is two different bands' take on the same tune, and they're both fabulous...but very, very different. Which is nice in and of itself. Amalgamated Sons of Rest - "My Donal"Massive Attack - "Home of the Whale (feat. Caroline Lavelle)" |

It figures. I haven't been truly sick in something like five years, which is incidentally the same amount of time I haven't had access to whatever Yuck is being passed around schools via my mother. Two weeks ago Mom started teaching again and promptly came down with a miserable flu-like bug. It passed to Dad, and now that they're both recovered I've got it. -_- And so the Cycle of Life starts spinning again. *groans, crawls under blankets and is not seen again for a week* EDIT: Because everyone likes Internet presents. Blowing Hot Air (G), Anesthetize (Viola/Godot, PG-13) Title: Blowing Hot Air Fandom: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Completion date: November 22nd, 2008 Wordcount: 48 Rating: G Prompt: CONVECTION!( Phoenix pointed. )C'mon, you knew that either a foodie or a science major would grab the prompt. Also, this is definitely the shortest thing I've ever tried to pass off as a fic. XD Title: Anesthetize Fandom: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Completion date: November 26th, 2008 Wordcount: 530 Rating: PG-13 Prompt: Godot x Viola. Bonus points if she sedates his coffee. Additional inspiration from this lovely (and worksafe) fanart that filled the prompt. ( He'd done it again... )I like how as Godot, this guy'll belly so much easier to a woman. That really fits with the Phoenix arc's theme of females in power, and I'm sure I don't need to tell you how much I love that kinda stuff. |

Let's see what I did this year! Take the first sentence (or two) from the first post of each month of 2008. That's your year in review.
January: Title: Collections February: I know I haven't answered the meme I posted yet, I sort of hit a wall, and well, work. March: bwaha? April: Title: Imprinted Thought May: I did! Two drabble bits. June: ... >.> July: ... <.< August: .... >.< September: Title: Spirit Imagery- part one October: Title: Mistress November: I was at work yesterday and totally had a moment of 'you can't be serious.' It was over, of all things, a word. December: Take the first .... yadda yadda yadda
I am -so sorry- everyone. I hadn't realized... well, I didn't realize I was made of so much fail this year. I swear. To make it up to people (and see if anyone even still reads this damn thing after my summer vanishing act) I am taking prompts!
Any fandom on my archive post at the top front of my journal is up for grabs. Though I have half naked men on my IJ, so, er, if you're at work, you have been warned. Gimme a character and a word, also, those of you who RP with me, all those muses are game too. |

And finally... My snarry_games pieces Transferis and The Weight of Secrets are both up on my site. I imagine most of the HP folks have already seen them, so I didn't bother reposting here. blue_soaring wrote a fic follow-up to my Transferis art though, which is just so richly atmospheric it blows me away. I wish she'd write more HP, since one of my very favourite fics of hers is a Snape/Black piece she'd written for merry smutmas a few years ago. Anyhow, go read (my image is included in the post for the uninitiated!) Transferis, Snape/Harry, ~3300 words. Post-novels. I'm regularly working Sat-Mon, which at first left me wondering what to do with my time, but now school is really picking up nearing the end of the semester, so the next four days are going to be pretty packed for me. I have a lot of work to do for my two final projects. I'm happy with my progress on them though, and I have some fun side projects to work on to keep me sane. I'm really happy I've managed so much art lately, since it just plain feels good to be drawing regularly again. As I flailed in my last pic post, I ordered my Cintiq, so that should get to me within the next week. So. Excited. |

Best Served Cold Title: Best Served Cold Challenge: Revenge Character: Rufus, Kadaj Team: Turks Word count: 100 Oh, this moment was so worth the wait. That look of shock and horror, of utter and complete betrayal – perfection. To think, he believed he had the upper hand all this time, bringing me up here for a bird’s-eye view of the nefarious destruction he and his fellows would unleash upon the innocent citizens of Edge, all in search for their “mother” – a few vials of cells, hidden right in front of him all this time. “A good son would have known.” Serves the miniature nightmare right. If Sephiroth hadn’t started all this bullshit, my cat might still be alive. |

Prompt #76 Keeping promises - that's Avalanche's specialty! They nabbed that trophy from SOLDIER with a solid 10 points! SOLDIER and the Turks...not so good at keeping those promises. Then again, they are ShinRa stooges. ^_^;;
This week's prompt is #76 - Revenge
Is revenge truly a dish best served cold or will an eye for an eye make the whole world blind? Either way, this week is all about revenge.
Does Tifa want revenge for what happened at Nibelheim? Will Cloud demand revenge on Sephiroth for killing Aeris? Is Rufus plotting revenge on those that instigated the terrorist attacks on the reactor? Would Vincent seek revenge for injustices he endured?
This week plot revenge, but do it in just 100 words!
Silly Mod: And as food for thought, here is a Calvin and Hobbes quote on revenge: “Well, remember what you said, because in a day or two, I'll have a witty and blistering retort! You'll be devastated THEN!” |

Dec 08 - Free for all! So! This month, I had planned to do a post with a 'Gift' theme, since it was Christmahanakwaastice time...and then my computer died really, really impressively (...a glowly rectangular halo appeared in the middle of the screen, and then it wouldn't turn on any more. It literally gave up the ghost), and I had to buy a new one. And the new one is...doing strange and unusual things, meaning it's going back to the store next Saturday, the soonest I can take it. My iPod is also giving me the cold icies by freezing up and the screen doing new and different things that usually tend to translate into 'bad'. With all these combined, I just have not been able to get the list for this month ready. m(__)m And so! This month is a free-for-all! In the comments, upload a song and the lyrics, and I'll put it up in the main post. If you want to do a song in the key of Gift, that works, too--seeing as the only gift electronic equipment is giving me this month is the finger, y'all can do a better job then me right now. :D OK, 14 songs? Should be plenty for y'all to work with; have at! :D The music! 1. Amanda Palmer - Runs in the FamilyFrom auryon( The lyrics have problems with winter and autumn. )2. Weddings Parties Anything - Keep Talking To Me (wma format) From megpie71( You bide your time, lyrics, I'll buy the drinks. )3. Devil May Cry anime - Future in My HandsFrom jlsigman( Set the lyrics free from lies and cold deceptions. )4. JJ Lin 林俊傑 - Eternal Life 不死之身Mod got off her ass and uploaded! This is one I had picked out for the "Gift" theme. ( After the earth has been destroyed, the lyrics will still love you with a love that knows no bounds. )5. Tori Amos - Bells for HerMod "Gift" pick! ( And now lyrics speak to you are you in there? )6. Justin Timberlake and Andy Samburg - Dick in a Box ( SNL live version, studio version) Mod "Gift" theme...oh come on, I HAD to. It was a moral imperative. XDDDDD ( It's my lyrics in a box! Lyrics in a box, ooh. )7. HY - あなた Anata (you)Mod Gift theme ( There were days when it hurt, when the lyrics crumpled to the ground in tears. )8. Anthony Stewart Head - Standing in the WayGift pick! ( The lyrics wish they could stay. )9. Kirsty MacColl - Runs in the FamilyFrom auryon( These lyrics know where they stand. )10. Imogen Heap - Just For NowFrom auryon( These lyrics are just for now. )11. Tarja Turune - The ReignFrom elanor_pam( The lyrics see the waves of sand. )12. Tarja Turune - Boy and the GhostFrom elanor_pam( The lyrics' light went out. )13. Tarja Turune - Damned and DivineFrom elanor_pamThe page with the lyrics seems to find cut and paste offensive, so go here for the lyrics. 14. So. Had SCA fighting practice today. Apparently I'm used to swinging a sword around, because that arm and shoulder? Are perfectly fine. My shield shoulder, on the other hand? Hurts like the devil to move. Also got a pretty good bruise on my elbow where the elbow protection kept sliding down my arm and the metal dug into the bone. ... yes, I'm doing the heavy fighting, not the lighter rapier fighting. It's incredibly fun. =D Though now I gotta make some armor...
In other, associated news, I'm thinking I'm gonna go with pre-christianity (ergo 6-9th century) Scottish, Irish, or Viking. Or Viking, with scottish/irish influences. Whatever. Good thing about the Vikings is they were raiding and trading all over the place, so other cultures can influence it a bit.

*whew.* I just posted my last kinkfest prompt, after banging it out in the space of about an hour and a half. Which I've been doing far too often this round. *headdesk* Even when I was busy with school, I used to have my prompts written out well in advance. This month, writing was like pulling teeth and I usually wound up having to come up with something either the night before or the day of. I really think my quality suffered. Maybe I need a break. It's not as though I don't have a metric ton of crocheting to do, after all. *zoom zoom yarn becomes blanket, alakazam!* Thanksgiving was actually very nice. I baked the pumpkin pie (and it turned out amazing, thankyouverymuch!), Mom made gravy from scratch, and Dad did pretty much everything else. He'd wound up getting a twenty-five pound turkey because that's all he could find. It barely even fit in the oven. So, uh... anyone wanna come over for turkey sammiches? XD It's really good turkey, too - usually I could take it or leave it, but Dad did a really good job. I suppose that's a good thing if you're going to have leftovers anyway. EDIT: Oh god, lol. Dad put up the Peanuts characters today (see this post) and has a spotlight shining on Sally so it casts the shadow of her head right on the front window. I... never realized how much her head looked like the Bat signal before. XDDD This calls for a crossover, you know. "Good grief, we need a hero!" "I've got an idea. Sally, hold still." "What are you doing, you blockhead!?" .......oh god, my brain. Current Mood: tiredCurrent Music: Beloved - VNV Nation |

Thanksgiving In grand old family tradition of living by Murphy's Law, we decided to have Thanksgiving *today*, as opposed to the actual calendar date.
The first turkey ended up a charcoal briquette. We're on round two.
It's 2 in the afternoon, and I'm running on three hours of sleep, and already managed to cut myself with a rather large cleaver.
I'm looking forward to Monday, when all this madness will be over, and I might, actually, be able o go out and get that tire I need for my car that I was supposed to get yesterday, but somehow never managed due to the madness that is Black Friday.
For all of you who observe the day of the turkey coma, I salute you and wish you a merry gastronomic adventure. I myself am looking forward to the year I'm on my own, and can only afford Chinese take out. It'll be less hazardous to my health I'm sure. |

I dreamed of the destruction of Shea Stadium, and sitting in the middle of the field between Jose Reyes and David Wright as the crowd sang Radiohead's "Lucky" and they ceremonially exploded part of the stadium before ushering us all out to the new one. I gazed across at the shell of the old, standing on the observation deck, then glanced at the new and decided I hated it... until I discovered it was made of some rubbery material from the Astral Plane, and, giggling like a maniac, I used the observation deck railings as bungee cords. Mom was horribly embarrassed. I had a very productive morning on Wednesday, and that's helped me feel a lot better. Major downswing when I got home though, but family time on Thursday was a great pick-me-up and I feel way better now, even more so after spending the day with bard_linn on Friday (and coming up with a bunch of fun TB/X AUs, too, haha). And happy belated Thanksgiving, everyone! Dinner was delicious (though we ate super early so it was more like lunch). Leftovers make a nice breakfast. Anyway, today is supposed to be decorating day for the holiday season, meh, and I have work later. We have way too many knickknacks and I think a lot of it's really unnecessary, but Mom likes decorating (though she hates doing it by herself and nobody else is really into it). So I probably won't be around much... Current Music: Cambridge Singers - Ave Maria |
